The Executive Inn as many know it, is easy to find at 5201 East End Boulevard South in Marshall, Texas. It is right off US-59 and pretty close to I-20. It is really well-located on the south-east side of town, so you can easily get to downtown Marshall, which is just 3-4 miles north and other cool spots around the area. So, we have put together a list of the best spots to check out right here in Marshall, or just a short drive away

We figured out what people like most, what is easiest to get to, and what is generally quite popular with visitors to give you an idea of where to spend your time.

Harrison County Courthouse & Historical Museum

  • This Texas courthouse is truly one of a kind. Built in 1901, it is just stunning with its pink granite columns, a huge dome and a grand rotunda. The museum next door has 22 rooms full of stuff about our town's history. You will find Native American artifacts, Civil War items, and even some cool memorabilia, like George Foreman's championship belt. Just a quick drive north to downtown, and you will find something history lovers really have to see.

The Starr Family Home State Historic Site

  • A must see place that really gives you a glimpse into what life was like back in the day for this important family. This beautifully preserved Victorian home from the 19th century and its surrounding complex really tell the story of the influential Starr family, who were among the early Texas settlers. You can take tours of the house and its beautiful grounds, which really showcase East Texas history.

The Michelson Museum of Art

  • This fine arts museum is really something special, with pieces by Leo Michelson and other artists from around the world. It is a really cool spot right in the heart of downtown Marshall, a true cultural gem for anyone who loves art.

The Texas & Pacific Railway Museum

  • Right in the old 1912 depot, and popularly known as the T&P Depot Museum, this iconic place brings to life Marshall's big railroad days with cool exhibits about trains, our town's story, and old stuff. It is a cool spot downtown, especially if you are into transportation or history.

Caddo Lake State Park

  • A cool place to check out if you are ever in the area. Around 20 to 30 minutes northeast, you will find one of the best spots in the area. It is the only natural lake in Texas filled with beautiful cypress bayous, trails for paddling, fishing, boat tours, hiking, and places to see local wildlife. This place is great for things like kayaking or checking out swamps; people really like it, and it is totally worth the short drive.

Wonderland of Lights

If you are around during the holiday season, say late November through December, you absolutely have to check out the Wonderland of Lights. It is Marshall's big yearly Christmas lights show, and it really is something special. Folks often say it is one of the very best in Texas, so you get the picture that it is a pretty big deal.

Once you get downtown, you can really just walk everywhere to hit up all the shops, places to eat, and whatever else is going on. If you like being outside, Caddo Lake is the place to be. But if history and culture are more your speed, then the downtown area is your best bet.

Have a great time!
